This past weekend I participated in the State Finals of the Senior Olympics at Franklin, Tennessee. The cycling events consisted of a time trial and road race. On Saturday I won the 60-64 time trial and on Sunday I won the Road Race in a 7 person sprint. The Senior Olympics are notorious for having big bunch sprints because the distances are Crit length on flat courses. We had approximately 55 starters in both events. I am qualified to ride in the Nationals in Cleveland Ohio in July but will have to miss those due to my work obligations. My two victories now give me some 26 gold medals in cycling (also got a couple swimming medals when I was doing triathlons in the 90’s) in the past 12 years. I am undefeated in my age group since I became eligible at age 50. In the picture are myself, Lonnie Puterbaugh from the I am Cycling Team and first in the 50+, Kevin ??, First in the 55+ Road Race from Chattanooga and John Burrell the 55+ TT winner from Gran Fondo. All are great riders and will be participating for Tennessee in Cleveland.
